Dave Strickland left a career
in rodeo to become a midget race car driver. He won 25 USAC
Midget features and came within a whisker of winning the
National title in 1970, losing out to Jimmy Caruthers in the
final race of the season. He was never out of the first five
in the point standings for five straight years, placing third
in 1969 and 1971 and fifth in 1968 and 1972.
Some of his rides were in the
Kincaid Offy, The Shannon Brothers Offy and Roger Mauro’s Offy.
Dave won five races during the Rdger Mauro Mile High Classic
series held in Colorado.
Strickland finished out his career in the Denver area
and won the Rocky Mountain Midget Racing Championship in 1974,
’75 and ’76, then helped his son launch his career in midget
racing with the club.
