Dave Strickland

Inducted into the Hall of fame in 1996

 

Dave Strickland left a career in rodeo to become a midget race car driver. He won 25 USAC Midget features and came within a whisker of winning the National title in 1970, losing out to Jimmy Caruthers in the final race of the season. He was never out of the first five in the point standings for five straight years, placing third in 1969 and 1971 and fifth in 1968 and 1972.

     Some of his rides were in the Kincaid Offy, The Shannon Brothers Offy and Roger Mauro’s Offy. Dave won five races during the Rdger Mauro Mile High Classic series held in Colorado.
     Strickland finished out his career in the Denver area and won the Rocky Mountain Midget Racing Championship in 1974, ’75 and ’76, then helped his son launch his career in midget racing with the club.
