National Midget Auto Racing Hall of Fame

Johnny Baldwin

Inducted into the Hall of fame in 2000.

If ever a driver could be called a “Legend”, West Coast midgeteer, Johnny Baldwin fits the image. During his driving career with northern California’s Bay Cities Racing Association, John racked up a minimum of 125 BCRA main event wins. In doing so, Baldwin captured an amazing nine BCRA driving titles (a combination of 4 Indoor and 5 Overall Championships) between 1952 and 1961.
Oh his way to gaining these titles John was instrumental in winning BCRA Owner

Championships for Jess Beene, Stan Brooks and John Pestana.
While most of his racing career was spent in midgets, Baldwin had successes in Sprint cars and won over 30 Sprint car main events in northern California races.
During USAC’s early years Johnny competed in the National events and won two 100 lap events.
A Native of Fresno, California, John began his midget career in 1946 there, but soon relocated to the San Francisco Bay area. He retired from competition in 1966, secure in his knowledge that he’d represented his sport well.
Johnny Baldwin passed away, peacefully, on May 19, 2000 in Sonora, California.
