Mike O'Halloran

Inducted into the Hall of fame in 2003

 

     Mike was part of the famous “Chicago Gang”, a term given to a traveling group that invaded the Midwest and Eastern tracks when a good purse was offered. Other “Gang” members included Wally Zale, Tony Bettenhausen and Duke Nalon.
     O’Halloran won two titles during his career that spanned from 1935 to 1953,

those coming at Chicago Raceway Park and Farmer City, Illinois. He won 64 features in the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Louis area outdoors and seven indoors races in Chicago. He also won main events at the Indianapolis Speedrome, Anderson, Indiana, Marshall, Michigan, Toledo, Ohio (Ft. Miami Speedway) and Kansas City Olympic Stadium.
     Mike’s biggest midget victory was the 100 miler at Langhorne, in 1947, driving for Johnny Pawl. He also won the “Night Before the 500” in 1949.
     O’Halloran lived in the Chicago area all his life and passed away there in 1978, age 62.
