 National Midget Auto Racing Hall of Fame

Ray Richards

Inducted into the Hall of fame in 2003

 

     Richards began racing midgets when they arrived in the Midwest in 1934. He was the second Badger Midget Auto Racing Association Champion taking the title in 1937 and 1938.
     Bob won individual track titles at Milwaukee in 1940, Racine, Wisconsin and St. Louis Walsh Stadium in 1941,

Racine and Chicago’ Riverview Stadium in 1942 and Chicago’s Raceway Park in 1948. He also won three Milwaukee indoor crowns and the Chicago indoor title in 1950.
     Richards’ biggest win was the 100 miler at Milwaukee when the mile was still dirt, driving a new Leader Card Offy owned by 2003 Hall of Fame inductee, Bob Wilke.
     Records show 129 feature wins that do not include many of his early Badger victories. He was still racing in 1959.
     He died in 1992 at the age of 76.
